# Autumn Roof Maintenance: Keep those Gutters and Drains Free of Fall Leaves

Posted on [September 30, 2018](https://justleaks.com/blog/autumn-roof-maintenance-keep-those-gutters-and-drains-free-of-fall-leaves) by [ scott ](https://justleaks.com/blog/author/scott)

Fall is a beautiful season, and the fallen leaves scattered across our streets are a sight to see. Those leaves may be lovely, but they aren’t so lovely when they are clogging our roof drains. With fall officially upon us, it means it is time for autumn roof maintenance.

Periodic and routine maintenance is absolutely necessary before winter sets in. Those leaves often bio grade into a soggy mess that will clog your roof’s drains and blocks scuppers. And as an added bonus, these leaves can be an inviting home for mildew, fungi, and mold. If these leaves are not removed, they can result in backed-up water, often known as standing water.

Standing water can cause the roof to sag and result in even more detrimental problems. In the winter that standing water will potentially freeze and expand, forcing its way into cracks and under flashings in your roof. Luckily, this situation is completely preventable. Our team is trained to look for leaves and debris in your commercial roofing system. Our keen eye to detail will uncover even the smallest leaf in the tiniest corner.

To learn more about autumn roof maintenance, we encourage you to call us at (408) 249-4646. You can also set up a time for a free roofing estimate.
